2009 Chardonnay

SONOMA COAST, SPLIT ROCK VINEYARD

This crisp, Burgundian-style wine opens with delicate and lovely honeyed-melon and crème brulee notes followed by subtle tropical pineapple undertones. The wine has a wonderful viscosity without being heavy from oak and butter flavors. There is a long, lingering finish with continued hints of tropical flavors.

Pale gold in color. Classic aromatics of nectarine, melon, Asian pear and honey, with a subtle spicy oak undertone. Beautiful texture on palate, viscous and balanced, with a mid-palate that ties crisp mineral and stony earth with tropical notes and ripe Summer fruits. With a vibrant acidic backbone, this wine finished clean with lingering moments of wet-stone and citrus blossom. This Chardonnay feels Old World, through and through; unbridled, yet deliciously balanced. Perfect food wine. Drink now through 2015. -- AS

About Split Rock Vineyard

Split Rock Vineyard is located in the Sonoma Coast growing region on the west side of Sonoma Mountain. Its rocky soils combine with winds from the Petaluma Gap to create a challenging growing environment, but one that consistently produces great fruit. Most of the vineyard has optimal southwest exposure and is a very high density planting with over 2000 vines per acre. Chardonnay clones 95 and 76 from this cool climate vineyard blend to create a complex, complete wine with concentrated fruit and excellent natural acidity.
